PT 141 (also called Bremelanotide) is an injectable liquid — sometimes delivered via nasal spray — that some men look at as a potential treatment for erectile dysfunction. Unlike Viagra and other PDE-5 inhibitors that act on the blood vessels to stimulate erections, this medication acts directly in the brain, enhancing sexual desire by activating melanocortin receptors. It may also be effective for men who have emotional or mental causes of ED rather than physical ones.

This synthetic peptide blend is derived from Melanotan II, which was originally designed to darken skin pigmentation and induce tanning. However, the first test subjects to receive this injection noted a very pleasant side effect: sexual arousal. This prompted researchers to further investigate and develop this hormone for the same reasons as well as to treat various sexual disorders in both women and men.

While this medication does not have as much research behind it as PDE-5 inhibitors like Viagra, Cialis, and Trimix, it has been found to be safe and effective in a wide range of patients. This includes people with vascular conditions and those who have not been able to get an erection from taking PDE-5 inhibitors.

Currently, PT 141 is only available as an experimental drug under the brand name Vyleesi. However, some mens hormone clinics offer this product as a way to increase the libido of their patients and help them feel more confident in the bedroom. The effects can be felt in as little as a few minutes, but they may last up to four hours.
